Three things we learned NOT to DO in a month of BBB

Three things we learned NOT to DO in a month of BBB

Yes, we put down our books and are watching the most successful show on broadcast TV, Big Brother Brasil. It has barely started and we have already seen some controversies, poorly placed statements and life stories that automatically turn into hero’s journeys, as always. Have you ever stopped to think about the real meaning of a reality show? Here, we find objects of discussion and even philosophical and anthropological studies in these programs arising from this example of “real life amplified”.

Therefore, among all the topics discussed in recent weeks, we have noticed that some of the themes addressed have been around femininity and what women represent. From what we watched, we selected some tips on what to DON’T DO IT AT ALL to share with you:

1. Lying to cover up a mistake.

Speaking badly about someone and then being confronted requires you to hold back and talk honestly about your points, as we’ve learned in previous editions. There’s no point in judging someone for how they behave — unless they offend you in some way, of course. If you need to point something out, be kind and put yourself in the person’s shoes: would you like to be treated this way?

2. Talking about bodies – whatever size, age or gender they may be.

It’s 2024 and there are still people who don’t know that this is an extremely serious and delicate matter, which should not be dealt with by anyone other than the person who owns that body? Seriously.

3. Using racist/homophobic/ableist terms is completely out of fashion — and, in some cases, a crime!

Yes, not even a month into the program and we’ve already had insults thrown at us disguised as “it’s just my way.” Here, we don’t take this type of behavior lightly. We value freedom of expression, but prejudice is a crime and should be treated as such, especially when it enters millions of Brazilian homes disguised as an opinion or joke.

We launch the challenge: will we take a stand when someone uses one of these terrible speeches near us? There is no point in smiling and nodding in these cases, these behaviors need to be pointed out and deconstructed always.
Come on, women — and men. And genderless people too!
